Spring Editorial 2012
Winter is officially over. The days are drawing out. It's that energetic time of year when anything seems possible. It's also the first anniversary of this website. How have we done.
Better than we dared to believe.
Up until Christmas 2011 we were getting figures of 50, 60 or 70 indicating that number of persons were, at that instant, visiting the site. Suddenly, and we still have no idea why, the numbers jumped and we began to record visitors in their hundreds. The favourite time being lunch time, late afternoon and early evening. If you're one of our visitors, pre or post-Christmas, thank you.
Then in February, the numbers accelerated yet again following the launch of the DVD 'Leaving the EU' based on the Ian Milne book 'Time to say No'. Now our various website activities are being logged in thousands where, before, it was in the hundreds.
The DVD has proved extremely popular exploding many of the myths about the necessity for British membership, providing some alternatives to that membership and illustrating how easy it is to leave. Over 30,000 copies have gone out in the South West whilst over 400 people contacted us individually, asking for a free copy. We are currently working on plans for a wider distribution to meet the demand from all over the country (and abroad).
Our speakers continue to be busy. We have reached a stage where one of our speakers is addressing an audience somewhere in the South West on two or three occasions each week. We're trying to push that figure up to four or five times a week, hopefully during this coming year.
Legislation continues to pour out of Brussels and this is reflected on our Home page, the Top Ten, In the Pipeline and the Legislation pages. At the time of writing, the new recently signed European Stability Mechanism (ESM) introduces, amongst other things, immunity for its officials and the right to demand limitless amounts of money. More on this very soon.
2012 will hopefully be the year we break into the tens of thousands.
Thank you to all of you who visited us for making the last 12 months so successful and enjoyable.
We hope we have been of some benefit to you in understanding the significance of Britain's membership of the European Union.
Trevor Colman.
March,2012.
